initial consult
Let’s get to know each other.
In this initial consult you will meet Karla to discuss your concerns & talk about your child’s interests and strengths.
Your child will get some one-on-one time to chat & play.
assessment
Assessment comes next.
With the information from our initial consult, an assessment is tailored to suit the needs of your child.
This might include formal standardised assessment with strict scoring criteria or informal assessment and the use of developmental norms to guide our treatment goals.
You can choose to receive a report, or we can simply chat through the findings.
therapy
First, goal setting then the fun part.
Together we’ll set some goals for the treatment period. Then…
Through activities, books and imagination, we will explore the best ways to support your child in achieving their goals.
You’ll be armed with knowledge and tips to help your child transfer the skills they’ve learned in our sessions.
review
Let’s get to know each other (again).
In a review session we’ll talk about the amazing steps your child has made towards achieving their goals.
We may also complete some assessment tasks to get some updated data to help us measure progress.
HOME PROGRAM
Moving towards independence? Wanting to reduce speech therapy sessions? A home program might be helpful.
This might include visual supports (like charts) & activities and games that are tailored towards your child’s goals.

language.
In the realm of speech pathology, language is the understanding and use of spoken or written words to connect with people & engage with the world.
Language development involves …
the use & understanding of basic concept words like temporal (time) words (e.g., today, tomorrow) & comparatives (e.g., big vs. bigger).
a growing vocabulary with the ability to label, categorise & make connections between words.
the skills to use and understand tenses (including root words, prefixes and suffixes) & to order and organise words in sentences.
Reading and writing involves the integration of skills, like…
listening, noticing, identifying and manipulating the sounds in words,
linking these sounds that we hear in spoken language to letters and letter groups
& using this knowledge for decoding and encoding.
